Warrior values

  1. Courage
The English word courage is derived from a Latin root meaning heart. The Vikings (and other warriors) were known for their courage in fierce battles, but courage means far more than being a brave warrior to me. It takes courage and conviction to stand for and live according to your ethics. Courage does not involve acting rashly or tactlessly. It means living by your own code of honor with wisdom and discretion.
  2. Sisu
Sisu is a unique Finnish concept that has a mystical, almost magical, meaning. Although the term has no direct English translation, it can be roughly translated as strength of will, determination, perseverance, and acting rationally in the face of adversity. Sisu is a sustained courage that defines the Finnish character. The mindset goes that what must be done will be done, regardless of cost. A person with sisu has the tenacity to dust themselves off, move on, and learn from failure. It’s the hard-jawed integrity that makes them pay their war debts in full. In short, it’s the indomitable will that sets Finns apart and explains many of the incredible things they do.
  3. Honour
Your personal honour is determined internally by your own commitment to live up to your predetermined ethics. The opinions of other can’t diminish your value as long as your actions are honourable. A true warrior has few regrets because she lives every day according to her own code of honour.
  4. Discipline
A true warrior lives by her own code and is unaffected by the views of society. She has self-discipline and self-control. Neither the law nor the opinions of others can determine what is right for a warrior.
  5. Industriousness
Industriousness simply means the willingness to work hard at whatever you do. If something is worth doing, do it well. Do it with pride and do it to the best of your ability. The Vikings and their gods despised laziness. A warrior must work hard, not just to take care of her family, but in everything she does. The true warrior is a person of excellence. Mediocrity is not an option.
